My interest in our family’s history was sparked in the late 70s when my Great Aunt gave her family history research to dad and mum . . .
I was still wearing flares in those days but loved going to St. Catherine’s House with the family trying to piece together the puzzle – especially where the truth was elusive! Little by little, we broke the back of the work, until we had traced dad’s ancestors back to 1837.
I was advised (by people who know better!) to choose one branch at a time and concentrate on that, and I suppose it might have been easier. Unfortunately, I have always known best! We visited granny in Scotland one year as teenagers and spent a day trying to find mum’s ancestors too, in Edinburgh – it was so cool being able to see the original records immediately and we got a lot done that day! Lots more branches found!
Since then, I have always just taken opportunities to find things out about the family as they presented themselves (I started on Gill’s family too after we married – I just couldn’t resist the challenge!), so what we have now is a sprawling mass – this is a family tree that hasn’t been pruned in years!
I have added pages for people interested in Glascoed, Monmouthshire – I am adding census and other information I have transcribed, bit by bit.
Check it out on the Glascoed records pages HERE
