Just a bit of background for me . . . hopefully this will also work as a gateway for the rest of my very extended family!
I was born in 1966, in West Wales, the son of Tony and Margaret Pitt and had a happy childhood, along with my big sister, Elspeth and little sister Jenny.
Dad died in 1984 and that was quite a time of change in general for me and the family. I went to university the following October (to Hull) where I met my wife to be, Gill.
We married in 1987 and moved to Bristol for 1 year, while I trained as a Careers Adviser. At the end of that year, we moved to South Wales with a week old baby in tow, Anthony.
Becky followed a couple of years later and now we are the proud parents of pretty much fully grown up kids! That’s a brief potted history of me. To access details of my family either follow the names of my mum or dad etc, or click on the names link if you are looking for a particular individual or family.
You may be frustrated to find a blank page about yourself or other people on here - it may well be due to the fact I decided to limit what information I put on the site about people who may still be living - data protection and all that!
I’ve been into this family history malarkey since I was a teenager and the “tree” has grown into a sprawling one, with branches in Wales, England, Scotland, Ireland and even India. Specific places of interest include in Wales, Pontypool, Glascoed and surrounding area of Monmouthshire, Llansawel and Llanstephan in Carmarthenshire, Crickhowell in Breconshire, in ENGLAND the Birmingham area, Stalybridge, Bolton, Hyde, Knutsford, Liverpool, Slaithwaite, Saddleworth, Cumberland, Hilborough in Norfolk and more, in Scotland, particularly Dundee and Angus, but also Cargill in Perthshire and further back family from Aberdeenshire, Ireland including Dublin, Morreraugh?, Leitrim among others. The Indian connection is via a soldier, Francis Connare who served there and whose daughter, Annie, was born at Fort William, Calcutta (of “Black hole of Calcutta” fame!).
Apart from obscure relationships to Henry Morton Stanley (reputedly my step grandmother’s second cousin, though I haven’t nailed down that relationship yet!) and Ian Dury (again an obscure relation!) I haven’t come across anyone really famous as yet, but it’s just really interesting exploring the lives of the people that I have sprung from! Hope you find it interesting or helpful and if you find a link or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
For anyone interested in Glascoed, Monmouthshire, I have an offshoot site that focuses on this hamlet and has quite a lot of source information and a few stories on there already. It’s at www.glascoed.com
